Local architecture inspired by the forest
To design these unique accommodations, Roisechamp called on Boris Pairon, an architect from Composite Architectes, who is originally from Redu itself. The goal was clear: to create unique spaces that are directly connected to their natural environment, while reducing the ecological footprint of the construction to a minimum.
The wood used comes exclusively from the Roisechamp forest plots located less than a kilometer from the cabins. Three local species were selected: spruce, larch, and Douglas fir for the structure, cladding, and interior finishes, respectively. This wood was sawn and processed by the Belgian company TVB Constructions bois, specialist in local wood, to limit transport and reinforce a short supply chain approach.
Roisechamp also chose not to use concrete foundations. Instead, screw piles from Techno Pieux were installed in the ground. This solution minimizes the impact on the land, avoids the need for concrete, and remains entirely reversible.
Innovative and responsible materials
Every component of the cabins has been designed with the planet in mind.
- Belgian grass insulation
For thermal insulation, Roisechamp uses Gramitherm® panels, made from natural Belgian grass. This bio-based material offers excellent thermal performance while being recyclable and compostable, with a very low carbon footprint.
- Showers and sinks with smart water recycling
The cabins feature Orbital Systems shower and tap systems, inspired by aerospace technology. The principle: filtering, purifying, and recycling water in real time during use, reducing consumption by up to 90%.
- JETS vacuum toilets
Roisechamp has opted for vacuum suction systems developed by JETS, inspired by railway and aeronautical technologies. These toilets consume an average of 0.5 liters of water per flush, while ensuring comfort and hygiene.
Virtuous water management
- Natural filtration of gray water
Water from showers and sinks is treated by Raita's biobox, a compact biological filtration system that cleans gray water through a natural aerobic process, without chemicals. The treated water can then be reused for planting.
- Black water recycling
Black water (urine and faecal matter) is collected in Flat Tank 500 tanks manufactured by Glampsan. As Roisechamp is not connected to the sewerage network, the site manages and recycles its waste entirely independently.
A project that is taking root
Roisechamp is not just a place to stay: it is an experience rooted in its territory, authentic, respectful, and forward-looking. Through its architectural choices, materials, and innovations, the project shows that it is possible to build differently, without compromising on comfort or aesthetics.
