Redu, the Book and Art Village in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes
Redu, located in the province of Luxembourg, is an Ardennes village renowned for its cultural richness, remarkable rural heritage and lively events throughout the year. In June 2024, it officially joined the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia.Architecture & rural heritage
Redu has preserved its traditional character, with typical Ardennes architecture: shale and sandstone houses, slate roofs, old farms and well-preserved public buildings such as Saint-Hubert church (1854) and the old 19th-century schools. The neighboring hamlets of Lesse and Séchery also share this character, in a verdant setting amid rolling, wooded landscapes.
A village built around books
Since 1984, Redu has built its identity as a Book Village, a pioneering concept at the time. Today, the number of bookshops has dwindled, but around 9 are still active, often specializing in antiquarian books, comics, children's literature and more. These booksellers are still very much involved in major events such as the Fête du Livre and the Nuit du Livre, making a major contribution to the village's cultural life.Art at the heart of the village
Redu is also home to two major art venues:- The Space Art Gallery, opened in 2024, offers contemporary art exhibitions featuring Belgian artists in a welcoming space, with an integrated restaurant.
- The Mudia, an interactive art history museum, offers a fun and educational experience for all ages.
